-instructions does not make sense-cord is very short-hotpot mode has a heat level of P1- P5 -boiled an almost full pot of water in about 10-20 minutes -do not recommend using soup mode for cooking noodles; 10 minutes in, the water was still not boiling- sauté mode has a heat level of P1-P3 -fried an egg in about 1 minute -non-stick was good and made it easy to clean -the circular indent in the pot is where most of the heat is-the other 3 modes do not have heat levels, only timer/delay option-steamer, pot lid, and part of the lid are plastic-when cooking, the sides of the pot and the pot lid gets warm but not hot-did not try the rice or porridge mode so cannot say about how good it isI like it easy to use and heated up quickly.I thought this would be a high quality hot pot. It’s just ok. It’s almost totally plastic and costs way too much for what it is. It doesn’t come with much directions so you will have to figure it out yourself. Disappointed.Love this little cooker. I use it daily! The skillet is very light weight. The inside ceramic coating is very pretty. I haven’t used it extensively to fry things yet. But I have used it to boil vegetables and steam rice. They both performed well.GarbageMaybe I’m spoiled by kitchen gadgets coming with their own cookbook these days, but I really didn’t know how to use this thing when I opened it up, and the instructions didn’t clear much up for me. I actually had to come back here to read other reviews to get some ideas to try to help familiarize me with how the machine functions. Speaking of functions, I had a hard time understanding what “porridge” and “hot pot” were really going to do for me. Below I’ll list some of the things I cooked so far and what I thought about them:~Cream of Wheat: I cooked this on the porridge setting according to the way I usually do it in the stove, and it worked so much better to keep it moist, I didn’t know when it was done! It kept it warm without drying it out a lot longer than my old pot-on-the-stove method.~Brown rice: As above, the water didn’t boil away as hard as I’m used to on the stove, so I’ll probably use a little less than 2c water per cup of brown rice in the future. I choose the rice setting and then hit the plus button to get to .7 hrs (usually simmer it 45 minutes aka .75 hrs on the stove) and it was very well cooked. Next time I’ll try a bit less water and a bit less time and see if it comes out perfect!~Eggs: I tried fried scrambled on the sauté setting. I started the fried egg on the highest power (level 3) and was able to hit the minus button down to one so it didn’t burn as it was cooking very quickly. I should have adjusted the temperature sooner with the scrambled as well, because they started to brown on the bottom while the top was still very liquid. Overall, this works for eggs in a pinch, but I prefer my stove for this job.~Beans!!!!!!!!: Oh my goodness! This is why I needed this machine! I haven’t wanted to do dry beans on the stove because it seems like a long time to let it cook, but my slow-cooker makes way more than we want to eat at a time. I started with about half a pound of dry garbanzos (a couple of years old, probably, because I didn’t know how to cook them), covered them with water (supposed to have 2” of water but there wasn’t room so I added more as the cooking progressed), added a teaspoon of garlic salt, and adjusted the soup setting to 3hrs. They turned out nice and firm with that preparation, and I can’t wait to try again with another type! The instruction book includes mention of a power switch, which my version doesn’t have, but I just press the “Menu/Start” button to turn it off before I unplug the handle. Also, make sure you only rinse out the inside of the pot and be careful not to let it sit in water or go in the dishwasher. Water in the electrical parts will ruin it according to the instructions. But it is easy to clean the inside with a little soap and a rinse without damaging the rest.I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about getting this multi-function Hotpot Cooker Steamer at first when searching for a small rice cooker. I knew from reading the product description and other reviews that this hotpot is made mostly from plastic on the outside including the Steamer basket on top but I was a little surprised to see how lightweight this cooker was when it arrived in a small box. By the way, I did not see it stated anywhere on the product page the basket plastic is food safe or BPA-Free but I am sure it is and there was no plastic smell when cooking so that was a good sign. But the thing that drew me to this is the Food Grade, Ceramic Oil Liner used in the inner tank or pot. Other coatings tend to strip and scratched up over time so I did not want to keep replacing those expensive inner pots and decided to try out this Ceramic Oil Liner instead. So far so good, I am very impressed with how well and fast this pot cooks brown rice. My rice cooker took about an hour to cook brown rice and this was done in half of that time. I mean, I soon as I plugged in this hotpot cooker, I could hear the water rumbling inside the pot within 30 seconds or less. After 30 minutes, Voila, the Brown rice was cooked to my liking and it did not stick to the inner pot at all, making cleaning the inner pot a bit easier as well. Speaking of which, the reason I left this at 4-star is due to the inner pot is built into the cooker itself and can not be removed for cleaning or submergeable in water. I was hoping that was doable but took a chance on it anyway since there was no information concerning this on the product page. Now you know, the Inner Pot is not removable :). So cleaning underwater is a little precarious due to this fact but still can be done with a little care and patience. Just make sure to not submerge this cooker in water or let water get inside the handle or at the bottom and inside the electrical components of this cooker. Other than that, the more I use this cooker and know how to clean it safely, the more I am impressed with what it can do. Steaming vegetables, dumplings, and boiling eggs while cooking porridge or rice at the bottom save time and space. To be honest, although the stir fry function works just as well as the others I will probably not be using the stir fry function on this cooker 99% of the time because of the cleaning procedure mentioned earlier. Operating the control unit with LED display on the handle is very straightforward with just +/- buttons to increase the time or heating level (1-5 for Hotpot or 1-3 Stir Fry), a Menu/Start/Stop/Cancel button, and a Timer/Keep warm button. Use the Menu button to select your cooking type (Porridge, Rice, Soup, Hotpot, Saute) or Timer. Then use the -/+ buttons to adjust the heating level or time where applicable and that is pretty much it basically. There is a little leaflet with instructions and safety information in the box so do take a little look and read that first, it's not perfect but still readable :). Great little Hotpot Steamer Cooker to have in my small kitchen, and easy to take along when I am traveling or staying in a hotel for a few days. Heats up fast, and not just an old boring rice cooker :).
